I never thought it would happen to me.
If you know me, you've heard me prattle on and on about the value of having printed photographs, and how you never know when technology could fail you. I also backup my clients photos in 3 locations- I was so happy to be able to help out a bride who lost ALL of her wedding photos 2 years after our session.
Today, I was getting some items ready to print, and.
Gone. After frantically searching my computer, external hard drive, and online backups. Nada. Zed. Zilch. All those photographs from our FAMILY HIKE disappeared. Why hadn't I backed up my own photographs, when I'm so crazy about my clients'? I didn't think it would ever REALLY happen.
Luckily, I still have the RAW, unedited photographs. I'll have to go through and try to replicate/re-edit them to match the ones I already ordered. It's not the end of the world, and I'm SO HAPPY I still had the original RAWs. But my heart sank seeing somehow the entire folder had been emptied.
So, lesson learned. BACK UP YOUR DATA, Y'ALL. Or better yet, keep everything in printed photo-boxes and albums, so you will always have them handy.
