Moving is never REALLY fun. It's exciting to go to a new place, make new friends, try new foods, see new sights. But it always sucks leaving behind good friends and memories. Packing your life into boxes and starting fresh somewhere else can be pretty nerve wracking- especially for children.
I only moved twice in my childhood, and one of those times was just a town over. I remember how hard it was to say goodbye to my friends who I'd know since I was a baby and have to move to a completely different state, climate, culture (because, real talk, the south is really different from the midwest). It was pretty hard for a long time. I still will push people away instinctually to avoid dealing with feels.
Being in the Military, unfortunately, is pretty much a revolving door of people coming and going. Thanks for Facebook, Instagram and cell phones it's a lot easier to keep in touch with friends once they go on to their next adventure. I'm so thankful for the amazing people in my life, and I wouldn't have met them if my husband hadn't chosen this career path.
One cool thing you can do for your kids (or self) is have a photo session to remember your besties by! We decided to take these two littles out for shaved ice and let them have fun one last time before our friends took off for their new home.
What is your best advice for keeping in touch with friends after they move away? Do you plan to take photos of your kids and their best friends each year? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
