The 4th of July is a pretty big deal across America, but multiply that by 100 when you're a military family. EVERYONE joins in the festivities, and most people have an Americana themed outfit, BBQ, and beer! Schofield, like most posts, has a huge event each year that draws a huge crowd. This year the band Daughtry played, they gave away a car, had a corn hole tournament, and a some local acts performed.
At sunset, the 50 states were announced with a canon blast for each one (and cheers for each person's home state), followed by the Army band and then... FIREWORKS! I think the show lasted about 20 minutes, but it felt like 5. The kids had a blast. The only thing missing was sparklers- all fireworks are illegal in Hawaii, so we'll have to wait another year to let the kids experience those.
